Inlays and Onlays Header

What happens when a filling isn’t enough and a crown is too aggressive? Dental West NYC’s minimalist approach to dental procedures means that we help our patients avoid major treatment whenever possible. Inlays and onlays cover that middle ground, helping you maintain as much tooth structure as possible.

What is a Dental Inlay?

When cavities are too big to be treated with a standard filling, inlays are used instead. Similar to a filling, they are porcelain inserts which fit the shape of the hole in the mouth. The doctors at Dental West remove the decay, make an impression, and send it to the lab.

At your next appointment, we will bond the inlay into your tooth, making a near invisible transition between tooth and restoration. The bonding itself may also help to prevent further decay.

What is a Dental Onlay?

Onlays are similar to inlays, except they cover more of the surface of a tooth. Specifically, an onlay replaces at least one cusp of a tooth. This is used when even more tooth structure is compromised. The goal is to protect your teeth and keep as much tooth structure as possible.

If you think you might have a cavity, reach out to us at Dental West NYC to schedule a consultation and discuss your options for inlays and onlays in Upper West Side NYC. Our team is here to help you decide which option is best for you.
